You will all be pleased to know that there are some New Zealand overprinted postal order up on http://www.ebay.com .You have to look under the 'Coins & Paper Money' section. The vendor goes by the handle of 'john.eccles'.

You will all be very pleasantly surprised.

Indeed. But because of the way ebay works they do NOT show up if you log in on www.ebay.co.uk, nor does ebay.co.uk show any listings by john.eccles.
You have to sign in on ebay.com as Aidan says.

That's rather irritating, but (I understand) it's also a result of the way the seller has put the items up on ebay.

John, change the end tag of the eBay URL from '.co.uk' to '.com'.You don't have to log in.Just go up to 'Search',which is located near the top of the screen, then you type in 'Postal Orders'.

Yes, that'll do it too. But you still have to either do that or sign-in on ...com oterhwise you cannot see them on ...co.uk
Interestingly if you know the items ID numbers you can find them that way no matter which ebay area they are on.
In the past I've found it necessary to duplicate some of my ebay "favourite searches" so that I can hunt on .... com as well as on ...co.uk or ....co.it etc etc.
It's a frustrating part of the way ebay works.
thanks

John & Mal,
Here are the steps to looking for New Zealand postal orders on eBay;

Go to http://www.ebay.com .
Click on 'Coins & Paper Money'.
Click on 'Australia,Oceania'.
Type in 'Postal Order'.

Then there you have got the listings come up.

The New Zealand B.P.O.s on there have all had bids so far.

Aidan.

Mal
I've already got "items available to:" set to "all countries / regions", and it doesn't pick up these items. Which box were you suggesting for "worldwide" - I can't find one with that option.
It would certainly be easier if that worked, as Aidan's solution, though it works, does involve changing the URL that I'm logged in on. I can't always sign in on "... com" as that would conversely miss items only listed on "...co.uk"

John & Mal,you don't need to sign in at all when you come to http://www.ebay.com 's front page.

I tried it myself that way,& it DOES work.

Aidan.

It still means changing from ...co.uk to ... com in the middle of a session.

I think it still easier to go into advanced search put in postal order or whatever and then scroll down to location and click on worldwide in drop down banner. It then covers everything from then on in the searches. You don't need to sign in until you want to bid or see past auctions or check on other bidders (now that's crafty).

It also helps to put in -mail for postal orders.

Also if you want to cover plurals put in postal order*.................Mal

aha! yes that works, which means that the reason i wasn't seeing them was because he had not set "available to" to include UK.

What I hadn't realised is:
there are 3 "radio button" options under "location" (radio buttons means you can only choose one, like choosing the channel on your radio).
I'd set "available to uk", which meant it totally ignored the option 'located in any country/region'.
So by choosing option "located in any country/region" it then ignored my "available to uk" option, but that seems less important.
Unintuitive- I don't see why they should be mutually exclusive like this.

Many thanks Mal.

Gents,

Aidan has suggested that you search for postal orders in the numismatic categories. I respectfully suggest that you search in ALL categories. Some collectors consider postal orders "postal stationery", and they are thus listed in philatelic categories. Yes, you will get some "hits" in categories where a seller puts something such as "payment by postal order only" in the title, but you will certainly miss an item or two if you don't search the entire ebay community.

... and don't forget to include "postal note" too.
The format I use is

Code:
postal (note*,order*) -bunter* -sack* -bag*

the latter three to suppress "Billy Bunter's Postal Order" (book), and the sellers of plastic mailing sacks/bags.
You still get a number of sellers of "stationery note postal cards", but as Jack says this is a small price to pay for avoiding missing any I'm after.

By the way, extending the search to "search title and description" raised the number of hits from 76 to 2,726,906 (sic) if you are searching in ALL categories!

You will be pleased to know that Richard Solly was the successful bidder on some of the New Zealand overprinted B.P.O.s.
