I am always looking for ALL current and former postal financial instruments from Viet Nam, Cambodia (Kampuchea), Lao (Laos) and Myanmar (Burma) and colonial and military pasts too. This includes International Reply Coupons and telephone tokens and cards.

Howard,
The banknotes of colonial Burma are very hard to find. The postal orders of colonial Burma are extremely scarce.

Aidan.

The majority of the Burmese postal orders issued under British GPO and currently on the market appear to be a series of 3½ annas on 20s King George VI all with consecutive serial numbers and all date stamped on the same day, like this one:

I can't make out the significance of the date on which they were all bought. It is, however, worth noting that this was a year after Burma achieved independence. Was it perhaps the last day of British run postal services? Or was it merely the last day of somebody's residence there before returning home?

There's also a nice George V one on GB Overprints Society (click here)

I have a couple of the illustrated postal order and my research of them indicates they were brought out of Burma and eventually used as some kind of lottery ticket in Australia. If anyone knows anything different, please contact me.

The postal order at the "There's also a nice George V one on GB Overprints Society (click here)" is fantastic and the first I have seen of this variety. If it is ever for sale, please offer it to me!!!! Can I put it in my catalog of Burma financial instruments?

That George V Burma postal order was sold on Ebay in November 2005, for £145. I understand the successful bidder was a member of the Postal Order Society, so keep an eye on POS auctions in case it comes up!

I've got scans of G6 20s Burma postal orders with the following serials:
W/31 172 661 26 1 1949
all the rest 25 1 1949:
W/31 172 706
W/31 172 708
W/31 172 718
W/31 172 720
W/31 172 721
W/31 172 724

If you've got any other serial numbers I'd be very very pleased to have scans! I mean scans of the full postal order of course, not just the serial number Smile

John,
Someone needs to get scans of postal orders from the Colony of Burma uploaded onto here as well.

They are extremely difficult to find.

Aidan.
